Description
ABP (Mer) in conjunction with JYA Ltd (now Edenvale Young) were appointed to undetake a flood determination study for the Cavendish Dock in Barrow in Furness. This particular project formed one of a number of studies to assess both fluvial and tidal flood risk to Barrow in Furness.
Cavendish Reservoir is classified as a Class D Reservoir in accordance with the Reservoirs Act 1975 principally because of the proximity of housing to the north eastern embankment of the reservoir. The Flood Determination Study was prepared upon the recommendations of the Inspecting Engineer to ascertain whether there was a risk of flooding as a result of overtopping to the reservoir embankment. A fluvial return period of 1 in 150 years was used based upon the requirements of the Reservoirs Act (Table D5.2: A Guide to the Reservoirs Act 1975 published by the Institution of Civil Engineers and DETR).
Scope of Work
The project included.; the procurement of topographic and Lidar surveys of the Mill and Roose Becks; hydrological modelling and preparation of a wave overtopping model to asses the impact of locally generated waves
